3 Things You Need to Take on a Fishing Charter

Going on your first trip out on the ocean can be exciting. However, in order to make sure you have the best possible time, it is important that you be properly prepared. While you will no doubt be considering what fishing gear you wish to use during the charter, you may not have thought about some of the other items which will come in handy. Read on to find out more.

Sunglasses

During the summer, Australia receives a lot of sunshine. While you will no doubt take steps you protect your skin using suncream, you may not have considered the steps you will take to protect your eyes. When sunlight hits the surface of the ocean, some of it is reflected back upwards. In effect, the ocean becomes like a giant mirror. If you do not wear sunglasses when on deck, you may find that you develop a headache because the bright light strains your eyes. When buying sunglasses, you should ensure that they offer a high level of UV protection. You may also wish to invest in wraparound sunglasses which will help stop any harmful rays from reaching your eyes. It's also a good idea to attach a cord to the sunglasses which will prevent them from going overboard if they fall from your head.

Entertainment

While the first hours of a fishing charter can be exciting and busy, once you have sailed out to the fishing grounds and set up your equipment, there will be very little to do except wait for a fish to bite. While chatting with your friends and the crew of the boat can help to pass the time, sooner or later, looking at the waves may get a little boring. You can combat this by packing a book or your headphones and a music device such as an iPod or Personal CD player. However, if you opt to listen to music while fishing, you should only wear one earphone. Doing so will allow you to hear any instructions or warnings which are given to you.

Camera

Finally, if you plan to capture and release the fish you catch, you will want some evidence of your achievements. That is why you should always make sure you have a camera on board.
